Abstract

This contribution reviews Claudia Boscolo’s recent work of ecocriticism La tempesta e l’orso (Industria & Letteratura, 2024), on the connections between capitalism, climate change, and wild animals. The author illustrates these relationships by analyzing the specific case of the Vaia storm, which caused a major disaster in northern Italy in 2018. The narrative of this catastrophic event is unfolded in all its complexity, including, for instance, the problem of deforestation and the story of a bear known as M49 and his search for a new home. Boscolo invites us to reconsider our behavior in the face of environmental collapse, including our political choices and digital lives.
